The Origin of LifeVac^®

2012 – Inspired by a tragic loss
The inspiration for LifeVac began when Arthur Lih, inventor and CEO, heard a heartbreaking story of a woman in a hospital, mourning the loss of her young son. A grape had become lodged in his windpipe, and despite attempts to save him using standard protocols, they ultimately failed.
Determined to prevent similar tragedies, Arthur set out to create a solution capable of clearing an obstructed airway.

2013 - Prototype
After a year of research and development, Arthur created the first prototype of LifeVac—an innovative, easy-to-use airway clearing device designed to provide the safest, simplest method to save an aspirating (choking) person.

2014 – LifeVac launched in USA
LifeVac became available for purchase! For the first time, families had access to a simple, safe, and effective choking rescue device, providing critical backup when standard methods fail or aren’t feasible.

2016 – the first save!
LifeVac’s first save was reported (in the USA). A powerful validation that LifeVac® could truly make a life-or-death difference in a choking emergency.

2016 – LifeVac Australia starts importing LifeVac® from USA
LifeVac Australia was founded by former paramedic Simon Gould, who has spent over 20 years educating health professionals, and over 30 years studying the science of choking. LifeVac Australia is the only authorised importer of the genuine LifeVac® device.

2025 and beyond
With over 4,000 lives saved worldwide, we remain committed to our mission to empower individuals, save lives, and work toward eliminating choking as a cause of death.
