The truth about first-aid measures for choking in Australia!

Contrary to what most people believe, in Australia there is no legislated or government authority on first aid / CPR recommendations or guidelines. The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) is a non-government, voluntary, member-representative organisation that by its own admission, produces treatment recommendations that 'do not necessarily reflect the science or scientific evidence' i.e. are to be considered opinions by the individuals involved only, and cannot be relied upon to work in a real emergency. In fact, the guidelines in Australia around choking are divergent from the worldwide scientific consensus and evidence reviews. It should also be noted that the only regulator of medical devices (like the LifeVac®) is the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and there is no approval process or function of the ARC (Australian Resuscitation Council).
